You might be a bit confused if you find your way to the front page of Natural Papa after reading about mini houses, vegan banana bread, our alternative lifestyle experiment, or posts about fatherhood, or how to be a better husband, only to find silly moustache videos.
So I think I owe an explanation to those of you who thought they were getting articles about natural parenting and fatherhood, but have instead gotten served Movember videos every time you turn around.
To be quite honest, I’m at a crossroads with Natural Papa. I started off thinking that I could both provide information and also somehow make money from the site, and while I’ve had some success with the first, it’s been quite an interesting journey with the second – learning to make a living on the web.
And I still don’t make any money from Natural Papa. It has provided me with countless leads for work, and connected me with some cool people, but I’ve never been able to pin down exactly what I do here that’s worth marketing to you. Sure, I put affiliate links in sometimes, and I run some ads, but I’m not selling you a “How to be a Rockstar Dad” or “How to be the Perfect Husband” system. Yet…
But I digress.
Because I’m ‘in transition’, as they say, I decided to do something different, to stretch myself a bit, and ended up committing to making a unique moustache and video about men’s health every day of Movember. And I thought it would go over well here.
But it doesn’t seem to be working. Subscribers are dropping like flies, and page and video views continue to be exponentially outpaced by pictures of funny cats and wipeout videos.
So I’m quitting.
Don’t worry, I’m not quitting Natural Papa, or Movember.
I’m merely ceasing to mix the two together. The moustache continues to come in nicely, my video skills are getting better, and my Movember Moustache Series is growing, one mo’ at a time. It’s just that I had to make a new home for all of that, and thanks to the incredibly easy Posterous system, my Movember-related efforts will be found here: Team Soul Patch: Movember 2010
I won’t be posting the videos here or to the Natural Papa Facebook Page, so please subscribe or bookmark the above site if you want to continue to receive the moustache awesomeness of Movember.
On a not-really-related note, I’m contributing to a new section of Good Men, called Dads Good, which features some great fathers writing about being a good dad and a good man. I hope you’ll go check it out.
And I really am going to actually write more posts here that don’t pertain to moustaches, really soon. But I reserve the right to bug ya with more videos as well…
