Many of us are letting life and nature pass us by because we spend too much time staring at our screens. To really get outside and enjoy yourself, you must disconnect from your screen and reconnect with the world. When you put down your screen, consider these activities that can get you outside this summer.
1. Go For a Walk
There is no better way to explore the world outside than to take a walk or hike. Determine where the parks and trails are in your area and explore them. There’s so much to discover. Take the time to breathe in fresh air, bask in the beauty of nature, and escape in the trees and natural beauty.
2. Eat Outside
Eating outside while the breeze blows gently through your hair has a certain charm. Consider packing a picnic lunch and heading to your favorite outdoor spot. It could be a park, but it could also be right in your own backyard. Gather some family or friends and share food and conversation while making memories together.
3. Take to the Water
If you can, take a boat ride or get yourself in a kayak. It doesn’t have to be competitive; just take a leisurely ride in a lake or river. You can experience the sense of calm and peace that the water brings. You may not have direct access to watercraft because they can be expensive. 4. Do Some Outdoor Play
Think of all the activities that you can enjoy while outside. There may be teams already developed in your area that play softball, volleyball, or frisbee. If you can’t find any, grab some friends and create a team to play. Sometimes, your family and friends just need a little encouragement. You can also take up golf to help you get outside. You get to enjoy time with your friends, and at the end, enjoy food and a cold beverage. Even better, now, while playing golf, you get to ride around in a golf cart. 5. Try Geocaching
If you want to combine outdoor fine with treasure, geocaching is for you. It’s a modern and technologically advanced way to go on a treasure hunt. All you need to do is download an app on your way to unique destinations hunting for treasure. You want to ensure you aren’t trespassing while searching. You could easily stumble into an area where you shouldn’t be. Trespassing may be considered a minor civil violation, but it’s still a violation. These infractions are typically categorized as traffic or non-traffic violations. Although this uses a screen, keeping it on your phone is a great way to minimize your child’s screen time.
6. Meditation and Yoga
Yoga and meditation are about finding calm and peace. What better place to do that than right in the middle of nature? If you can find a nice quiet place to roll out your yoga mat, give it a try. If you’re near a beach or grassy knoll, try meditating there. You can allow the fresh air and calming sense of nature to wash over you as you practice breathing.
If you already enjoy planting flowers and vegetables, you should spend more time outside doing it. You don’t need a large space to create a garden. You can use just a few pots on your balcony. Spend some time planting and watch what flourishes as a result. It makes your space look more beautiful but also gives you a sense of accomplishment.
There are many ways you can enjoy time while being screen-free. If you allow yourself to embrace the world outside, you may open yourself up to beauty that you didn’t even realize was there.
