5 Ways to Make Your Home a Haven

Parenting can bring so much joy to your life, but it can also be stressful. There are a lot of things to worry about when it comes to parenting. Making your home a stress-free haven for you and your children can help everyone focus more on the joy of parenting and less on the stress. Follow these five tips to make your home a haven.

1. Keep Up On Repairs

The first step in creating a haven in your home is to keep up on repairs. Parenting takes up a lot of time and energy. If you need to call in a professional to manage the repairs, that is okay. You do not have to do it all yourself, but it does need to get done. According to Comfy Living, Americans are creatures of comfort. In 2018 the demand for AC units was about 15.3 million units. We like comfort. To stay comfortable you have to have repairs that need to be done.

According to the HVAC Association, the average furnace has a life span of 15 to 20 years. However, if you get repairs done as soon as they are needed, you can extend that life span. Why does this matter? Remember, parenting can be stressful. Getting other stresses in your life under control, like avoiding a broken-down furnace, will make parenting easier.

2. Set Up A Routine

Humans, in general, thrive with a routine. Children especially thrive with a routine. Set a dinner time, and bedtime, and add a family calendar with important dates. Creating a haven in your home for stress-free parenting is easy when everyone is on the same page. A routine and a schedule take a lot of guesswork out of what is expected.

Be sure to add to the calendar some quiet time for you and your partner to just relax. With a routine and a schedule in place, you will have more time to take a break from parenting duties and enjoy the haven you are creating in your home.

3. Renovate

What do you dislike about your home? About 29% of homeowners surveyed by the Home Builders Association report they do not “love” their kitchen. If you are in that 29% that is an easy fix. You can renovate your kitchen even on a tight budget to transform it into something that is better suited to you and your family. According to the Home Builders Association, granite countertops are installed in over 64% of homes in the United States. How would new countertops change how you feel about your kitchen?

The point is, that small changes around your home can have a big impact on how you feel about your home. Creating a haven in your home means that you have to feel content in your space. You will be more focused on the joy of parenting if you are in a space you love.

4. Unplug

Technology can really get in the way of making your home a haven of rest and relaxation. Between the children on their tablets watching the latest Tik Tok videos and parents glued to social media, it can really become an overload of tech fast. Set a specific time for everyone to put their electronics down. Dinner time is a good time. Limit screen time for everyone. It can be hard but it is healthier for everyone.

5. Create a Safe Space

Parenting can be hard at times when you hear things from your children that you do not necessarily want to hear, but children need a place where they can tell their truth and not be punished for it. Make your home a safe space where your child/ren can express themselves freely without repercussions and tell their truth. You do not have to agree with their truth but they should be able to express it to you.

Your home should be a place where all your family members can gather and feel loved. Following these simple steps can create the perfect backdrop for parenting.
