Keep Your Cupboards Stocked Up With Everything You Need

To make sure everyone in your household can carry out their teeth cleaning twice a day, make sure you regularly top up your dental supplies. This includes toothpaste, dental floss, mouthwash and high-quality toothbrushes.

It’s important to change your toothbrush as soon as it starts to become soft and worn because this will reduce how effective it is.  In general, you should be looking to change it every 3 months – there’s nothing like cleaning your teeth with a new toothbrush for the first time!

One of the most common mistakes people make when brushing their teeth is to use mouthwash straight after or to rinse their mouth out. Whilst you need to spit out the excess toothpaste, you shouldn’t be rinsing your mouth out straight after as this will reduce how effective the fluoride in the toothpaste is. If you’re going to use mouthwash, use it during the day when it’s difficult to clean your teeth. You should also floss between your teeth at least once a day.

Reduce the Sugar in Your Diet

It’s a well-known fact that sugar is bad for your health, and in particular, for your teeth. When it comes to oral health, it’s not just how much sugar you’re consuming but how frequent it is being consumed too. The next time you reach for a healthy snack like a cereal bar, be sure to check how much sugar is in it before you tuck into it. They can be laden with large amounts of sugar, which is not good for your teeth, especially when you’re at work and you aren’t going to be cleaning your teeth until later.

Achieving an Effective Brushing Technique

It’s recommended to have at least 1,350 parts per million in your fluoride toothpaste, or at least 1,000 for children under the age of three. When brushing your teeth you should be using a pea size quantity of toothpaste and just a smear for those under three.

You should brush your teeth for two minutes, and even though this doesn’t seem like a long time, it can be when you’re just stood in front of the mirror brushing your teeth. So, until you get into the habit of doing this, use a timer. A lot of electric brushes will have timers built into them to make this easier for you.

Finally, brush your teeth twice a day, and especially before you go to bed at night. Make sure you spit out any excess toothpaste but don’t rinse.

Make Regular Appointments with Your Dentist

It’s important that you’re visiting your dentist on a regular basis, making appointments at the recommended intervals so you don’t miss one in the future. And, if you are nervous when going to the dentist, try not to show this in front of your children, as you could make them anxious too. Either get someone else to take them or put on a brave show! You’ll be surprised at how quickly they pick up on your habits and they shouldn’t be scared to go to the dentist as it’s a far less traumatic experience than it used to be, in our case, we have been going to the same dentist for years, and we became really good friends I even suggested him to search engine optimization services for dental practices because I really want people to notice how well he does his job.

Teach Your Child to Brush Their Teeth Correctly

As soon as their teeth start to appear you should start to brush your child’s teeth. They may even start to show their first teeth as early as six months but there are specialist toothbrushes available for toddlers. Get your child into the habit of cleaning their teeth on a regular basis and properly, as this will set them up for life. Help them to brush their teeth whilst encouraging them to do it themselves, praising them when they get it right.
