5 Reasons You Should Join an Adults Sports League In Your New Town

Moving to a new town isn’t easy, but a growing majority of adults will do it at some point. In fact, more than 63% of adults have moved to a new community at least once in their lives. One of the most important things adults can do when living in a new place is finding a way to become involved in their new community. One ideal way to do this is by joining an adults sports league. There is a myriad of reasons why adult sports leagues can be very beneficial.

Establish a Habit of Physical Activity

There is a growing problem of inactivity, especially among adults. Only one in four adults in the U.S. currently plays sports, and a lack of physical activity can lead to all sorts of medical problems. The great thing about moving to a new city or town is the opportunity to start over from scratch in some aspects of life. Immediately joining an adult sports league upon moving ensures the early establishment of ongoing physical activity, and joining up with the team for regular games is a much more enjoyable way to get much-needed activity than trying to hit the treadmill multiple times per week.

Make New Friends

It’s not as easy to make friends as an adult. Adulthood simply doesn’t present some of the natural and easy opportunities for socializing that comes with being young. Additionally, many adults don’t have an outlet to meet people and/or don’t feel like they have the time to develop relationships. Adult sports leagues introduce teammates as built-in friends for relationships that will grow naturally and gradually over the course of the season. In fact, many teams stick together for many consecutive seasons as friendships made on the team develop throughout the years. Many leagues allow adults to join a team without knowing other members first, so they can jump into making new friends without having to sign up for a specific team.

Engage in the Community

In addition to making new friends, adult sports leagues present the opportunity to rub shoulders with community stakeholders. For instance, playing in an adult volleyball league may provide the opportunity to meet the PTA president at a child’s school or a community service organizer, member of the police force, or business owner. These connections can help an adult become oriented in the community and lead to other opportunities to join groups or learn more about what is going on in the town.

Feel a Sense of Accomplishment

Adults often tie their entire sense of self-esteem and gratification to what goes on in their career or as a parent. After all, many adults spend most of their time working at a job or taking care of kids. On an adult sports team, a person can find a new way to reach goals and seek personal improvement. Joining a team and sticking with it will help a person develop their abilities and make meaningful changes. Besides, there’s nothing like winning a game or lifting a championship trophy with friends!

De-Stress From “Real Life”

An opportunity to get outside and get involved in sports can give adults a much-needed break from the stress and pressures of real life. Finding a good balance between responsibility and play is still very important for adults, and many fail to strike the correct equilibrium. Joining an adult sports league in a new area will set up a balanced foundation and help anyone to have some time to decompress and put their chores momentarily on the back burner.

There is a long list of things to get done when moving and settling into a new town. But near the top of the list should be figuring out where to sign up for an adult sports league. This step alone can make the transition to a new place more enjoyable and advantageous.
